House Painter in Kingsland Georgia

Sometimes we get letters...
I almost hired a house painter in Kingsland Georgia to paint my house and then I decided to do it myself. In hindsight I would have hired Kingsland Painters to do the job.

When I first bought my house I don’t think it had ever been painted since it was built. The paint was chipping off and it looked sun baked. The house was definitely a fixer upper but we loved the location and especially the view.

The first thing we needed to do was pick out paint colors for the house. This was tougher than I thought. I knew what colors I wanted but when I put them all together they just didn’t look right. It kind of a sage green with dark dark red and a white highlight. The red and white I loved but when it came to the green it just wasn’t looking right. We looked at green after green and finally found the perfect paint color to paint our house. We loved the colors and we picked but it took a long time for us to pick them.

Then we went down to a rental yard and rented a pressure washer. It took us about four hours to pressure wash the whole outside of the house. When we were through, everything was dripping wet but very clean. I love to use in the pressure washer it's like having a high-powered gun that just blasts everything away like a giant laser beam. We did find some rotten wood along the bottom of the siding, that we will have to replace before we start painting.

The next day we went to the hardware store to get siding to repair the spots on the house that were wood rotted. We had to go to several places before we could find the right siding that matched the house. Once we found the right siding we also picked up some primer to prime the new pieces of siding and some of the areas that didn't have any paint on them at all.

When we got home we cut out the old siding and cut New pieces of siding to fit where the old siding was Once we had the new siding in place and nailed off we could start putting cock on the outside of the house and started doing the grunt work of patching the holes and putting putty and cracks and sanding some of the smooth paint to rough it up a little bit.

The caulking job was a lot tougher than we thought, we thought it would take about 2 hours to cock the whole outside of the house but it took us about 6 hours to caulk the outside of the house. When we were done with the caulking we let it dry for overnight so we would be ready to paint first thing in the morning.

Preparing a house for paint is a lot of work and once you get all the prep work done it’s really easy to paint the house if you have the right tools and equipment to do the job right. I have worked on many construction jobs and what I have found is, some jobs are nearly impossible without the right tools. If I learned anything it was that the right tools can cut your time in half on any paint job.

The next morning we woke up early at 5am and started painting at about 6 am. We set up a paint sprayer and figured out that we forgot to tape everything off, you can't just start spraying paint on the house without taping everything off first so we put plastic all over the paint sprayer and stopped to tape everything off.

We used tape and plastic to tape off all the windows and doors and put tarps down on the sidewalks and driveway and on anything that might get trips on it. We also wrapped the plants with plastic and taped off and put plastic on the fence. We were finally ready to start spraying the house with paint.

If you are spraying the house make sure you have everything covered that you don’t want paint on, it’s a lot harder to come back later and get the paint off then it is to just cover everything up the right way the first time.

Spraying the house with paint was a lot easier than we thought and went a lot faster than we thought it would go. We sprayed the outside the house in about 5 hours and it's a large house, that's not including the trim but we sprayed all of the body of the house from top to bottom.

The next day we painted the trim with rollers and brushes. The trim goes pretty fast if you know how to do it, if you roll it first and then brush it goes a lot faster than it does when you brush it first and then roll a second most people don't know this so they end up doing it the hard way.

All in all it took us almost 6 days to paint the house it was a lot of work for us and we aren’t as young as we used to be. I don't think we're going to paint the house ourselves next time. We hired a company called Kingsland Painters to paint our rental house and I think the next time we go to paint our house we’ll just hire Kingsland painters to do the job for us.
